Arriving at Almeria airport we were greeted by our excellent Thomas Cook rep the luvverley Dawn!! Welcome back!!
Once again we stayed in Hotel Sabinal Roquetas de Mar (3rd year running) and were greeted as old friends by Jose Maria and his multi-lingual reception staff, there 24/7 to help and advise. Check-in a breeze (had booked superior room this time) and were soon unpacking and settling in. Room was excellent, large 7 foot bed lounge area with armchairs and full bathroom with hairdryer. The view was side on to the beach, a bit disappointing as previously we had pool-views which are fabulous. But never mind, as always spotlessly clean and comfy beds. As I am disabled with arthritis, I asked for extra floor mats for the bathroom and 2 mins later was given a brand new non-slip bath mat!!
Off we go for lunch, but first over to Colosimo Bar to change money with our friend Carlos (better rate than hotel) where as always it's HAPPY HOUR. All day, every day, and food is available at most times. Then down the promenade to the right to The Boulevarde, run by Noni + Tom, with Lily + Remus. Always a warm welcome and good homecooked meals + snacks, including Sunday lunch for those who miss English food. Later in the hotel dining room we were greeted by the manager Paco, Dora and the restaurant staff and welcomed back.
The food in the hotel, as always excellent choices, with chefs preparing many dishes to order and personal preference, including daily specials and carvery. Bit limited choice for young kids although pasta dishes + freshly made pizzas at each meal. Sabinal is right on the promenade, 2 minutes to beach and central for shops bars + restaurants. If you want English bars, hundreds of English tourists and "lager louts" please go to Majorca- this is the true Spain where the Spanish people holiday!! See you next year, Hasta la vista!!
