The location of the resort is fine, the beach is lovely although the sun shades are inadequate in condition and number. It is also important to note a number of people were stung by jelly fish. No caution was given by the rep in the welcome meeting and no signes were put in place. The pool area was great, plenty of sun bed's and shaded areas. The main pool is suitable for all ages, members of staff on hand to ensure people's safety and comfort. Accomodation however is not so good. Our room was not kept clean, the bed went unchanged for days, towels were taken away and not replaced and when they were they were not clean. The black out curtains were all hanging off with black mould growing on them and the "re-stocked daily" mini bar was done most days although not all.
The buffet restaurant was a disgrace. Tables were not cleared and re-set, waiter service was very poor, crockery was dirty, covered in food residue and the standard of food was appalling, so much so our rep wouldn't darken the door. We spoke with several families who had stomach complaints, was this a coincidence? A la carte restaurants are completley different. The service is excellent and the food is nice. The standard of cleanliness around the general areas of the hotel is fine but the toilet facilities let things down once again. Generally they were dirty and toilet roll didn't seem to get replaced.
Staff were great in the piano bar and service was good. The same can not be said for the ones working in the snack bar's. They were rude, unhelpful and serving you seemed like a chore. This was all conveyed to our rep who's standard responce (after speaking with other holiday makers) was "what do you expect?, this is Cuba. They won't bend to the Americans, they won't bend to us." What we expected was a 4 star plus Hotel which we and others had payed for. The reality is in my opinion this hotel should not be graded any higher than a 3 star. Do not go with high expectations you will be disappointed.
