It’s chilling out all the way at Cuba’s Sol Cayo Guillermo. This fab low-rise hotel is set amongst gorgeous, lush gardens and brings guests excellent accommodation. It’s friendly, warm atmosphere and homely feel make the Sol Cayo Guillermo a great choice for families and couples looking for glorious sunshine and tropical surroundings.

really lovely Hotel

We had 2 wonderful weeks in this hotel, from start to finish we were looked after very well. clean and tidy and our room was beautiful! it was a very quiet hotel and very low key...the beach was unbelievable and deserted! the food was okish but the standard of the hotel weighed out the food situation, i am looking at returning next March...I never usually go back but this place is a gem!!

Best in the Coco's

I have now been to this hotel 4 times year after year always go on my own. The staff go out of there way to help you and sort any problems out. Food is good and 2010 was the best yet with a new manager in place food always hot and a good selection for all. (Ok, some times you get a chipped plate or bowl we have them at home) Pool always clean and cleaned during the day and drinks served to you ok you might have to wait for them a little while. Rooms always clean bedding changed as much as you want clean towels and a bottle of water for your fridge every day if you need more just go and ask. Beach WOW just sit back and relax can be a bit windy at times but you won't notice your getting burned. Bugs yes you do get them the best thing we found is that if you get some skin so soft and put citronella in it and use that it helps. The staff are so nice and go out of there way. I go for 3 weeks every year and love it and have some good friends!

Not as good as 2 years ago

2nd visit to this hotel and despite it saying the hotel had been refurbished, it had certainly gone downhill. The food was often not hot, there were not enough plates and bowls etc and I often had problems finding a clean plate. The food ran out way before the dining room was due to close and the bars often ran out of drinks, including soft drinks. The beach was not kept free of seaweed like it had been previously and the sheets and towels were only changed once in 2 weeks. Will not return although the staff are absolutely fantastic and so friendly. Our complaints fell on deaf ears.

Sol Cayo Guillermo Review

Our first trip to Cuba. Initial impressions were that the hotel was not a 4 star more a 3 star. Communal areas could be kept much cleaner (toilets in particular we appalling and not cleaned often enough) and there were many cracked tiles and signs of shoddy repairs etc. The rooms however were much better being light and airy kept clean and supplied with towels etc. There was no coffee machines in the rooms which were advertised as being available and it took over a week to get one coffee machine to share between two rooms. The beach towels supplied by the hotel were old and needed replacing. The buffet area again was very worn and could have been cleaner there was a constant short supply of clean plates and in particular bowls. Much of the crockery was chipped and unclean. There was a constant short supply of glasses for orange juice in the morning. Often there were a couple of birds in the buffet restaurant which were swooping around eating things off the floor no attempts were made to remove them. The 24 hour bar needs cleaning more often and a big sign needs putting up advising guests that they must not enter if they are not wearing shoes or are wet from the pool. The area is tiled and prone to becoming slippy and there are children running around - an accident waiting to happen! Again due to the frequency of thunder storms and rain there should be greater care taken to remove rain water from the covered areas in the theatre and around the pool table to avoid accidents - this is not done. Although there were lots of small issues some of which I have described above this is all easily rectifiable with little effort the staff are all on hand and available anyway they just need better managment. On the plus side the hotel staff are all very friendly the HUGE plus point is the animation who work so hard to provide a huge range of very high quality entertainment for both adults and children alike they work so hard and should be commended for their endless hard work and creativity. They really made the difference. The beach at the hotel is just spectacular - paradise The pool is cleaned every day the gardens are kept nice. Overall I would say that this holiday is good value for money - not 4* but 3*. Again I cant say enough about the animation team - FIVE STAR. Hector the Thomas Cook/Direct Holiday Rep is very good and should get a special mention
