Whether you like active holidays or somewhere to zonk out, you can’t go wrong at Barcelo Club El Castillo. There are leisure facilities galore at this beachside location, you can plunge into the main pool overlooking the sizzling beach or seek a shady spot to hideaway around one of the other four, yes four pools! The accommodation’s pretty impressive too. Several low-rise buildings are dotted around huge flower filled gardens. If you like a bit of everything, maybe you’ll like a bit of Barcelo Club El Castillo.

Total upheavel

Initially we were thrilled on arrival. We booked three bungalows which were all together and they were spacious. The location of the hotel is great. To cut a long story short, the toilet was backing up and making strange noises. On the third night we had sewage pouring out of our shower, flooding into the apartment. We eventually had to be moved and had to pack, wading through sewage as we packed. We accepted it as one of those unfortunate things. However the following night the same thing happened to my daughter and her boyfriend and they had to be moved. In their new room the air conditioning was leaking and the following night they had a power cut and had to wait for a maintenance man to fix it. Three nights of chaos and frustration. Not enough bar staff in hotel. Pool area not swept properly. A plaster stuck in the same spot for three days and cigarette butts everywhere as the hotel did not provide ashtrays. Showers not cleaned and patios swept once whilst we were there. Tried to report to rep. and more time wasted teying to locate her but to no avail. Bottom line, this hotel has great potential but lack of staff and poor customer service spoilt the holiday. We did not even receive an apology from the hotel.

Great hotel, great staff, great holiday

The other review seems very unfair. we did pay the upgrade when we booked - only £70 for the week and had fantastic accommodation. Very modern, quite luxurious. Food quite good though tends to get a bit boring after a week. Staff were generally wonderful. Evening entertainment team tried hard and was mostly well appreciated. Am booking again for Christmas this year.

Not very enjoyable

Rooms absolutely awful, stank of dampness and not cleaned, cobwebs everywhere. Complained and was offered upgrade to proper room? for €15 per night. I declined offer having paid £1250 for the weeks holiday already. Rooms apart, the resort is nice, food ok, very quiet at night. Make sure you get the upgrade room or you will be sorry.

Would like to say we have been to this resort 3 times and would go back time and time again, food was good pools great and friendly staff, our rooms have always been top notch, this last time we were given room with air conditioning at no extra cost, but then I e-mail the hotel before arrival. I think people expect too much.
