PLUS

Larger than life, this upbeat hotel is a fab, sunkissed getaway. Hotel Tej Marhaba sits in a great location, right in the heart of Sousse, allowing you to really soak up the Tunisian atmosphere. If thoughts turn to home, you can pop in the Tej Marhaba’s own English pub, The Rose and Crown for a familiar tipple. There’s a heap of facilities and loads of actives, to keep you busy here, but a pool terrace and plenty of beauty treatments are always on hand if you want to switch off and relax.

Wonderful Holiday - Best ever!!!!!

What a wonderful relaxing holiday. Loved everything about it. Ali the bed man couldn't do enough for us ensuring our beds were ready as we walked out of the hotel. Achmed and Mohammed took care of us all as we lay on the beautiful golden sands. And then there was Zorro (bar Manager)at the Rose and Crown What a fabulous welcome every evening. Must not forget to mention the fabulous maids who cleaned our rooms every day!!!! Can't wait to see them all again Oct 2011.

Fantastic!

This was our second visit. Last time was 5 years ago and we stayed for a fortnight. This time we just booked one week instead of two as we now have a 22 month old and we weren't sure how he'd manage the heat. We loved it then and it's just as good now. Fantastic value for money. Clean, spacious, great food, lovely beach, nice staff. Only 2 small niggles, the bathroom towels badly need replacing as they smelled fishy as soon as you used them - thank goodness I had packed extra. For us the beds were just too hard. It felt like sleeping on hardboard covered with a sheet. In the end we were glad we'd only booked a week as we were aching from head to foot. Would we return? In a shot! But next time we'll take some camping air beds to rest our bones on. Even though it's dated it's a good hotel and you would be hardpressed to find such good value for money in the sun just 3 hours flight away. One final thing, if you go for 2 weeks take the 2 day trip it's well worth the effort. Loads to see and again great value.

Our thoughts

Our stay was the third time we have visited the Tej, the first time was four years ago. we are sorry to say the hotel has declined a little since our last visit. The hotel is now predominatly A/I, and in our opinion the standards are not as they once were! The number of staff have been reduced, the entertainment was almost non-existant and the droneing music around the pool was there to get the guests to go to the beach or just go out for the day. The best day of the week was Sunday, NO music. This is not sour grapes as we have been going to Tunisia for fifteen years and have seen many changes, many for the better and a few backward steps. Of course we will continue to visit such a wonderfull country, sadly not back to the Tej.

Disappointment

I was disappointed with the all inclusive as after 4pm you had to go get all your own drinks from one bar which ment long waiting the daily poolside games that was advertised did not always take place as the team was to busy drumming up talent to take to night clubs.

Tej. (14/07/2010)

I amazed at the review stating "it is a drinkers holiday" since the Tej has gone mainley A/I the drinkers are now abundant, many out side untill the small hours keeping my wife and I awake. Still one blessing the disco until 3 am has closed.

I would like to say don't visit this hotel - for extremely selfish reasons, I want it all to myself! I have been to Tej 10 times and it gets better each time. It's clean, has a good location and the people (from waiters to reception staff) are helpful, polite and professional. Please remember, you are in North Africa not Europe and the way of life is totally different. Not a drinkers holiday, which suits me, however, if you want a chill out and relax - this is the place for you.

What a brilliant place to relax, staff are excellent, food good, only niggle would be reception staff are a bit aloof, but I am going back in September for the 6th time.

Have you noticed many singles on your visits to this hotel and if so, do you know what the single rooms are like? This info would be much appreciated.

Hi, Not many singles I'm afraid, but the single rooms are just the double rooms for single occupancy so you get a 7ft bed all to yourself bliss. Regards, Julie

swimwear (02/09/2011)

I am planning on going with the family 14yrs and over, i was told that the women are treated a little disrespectful and cannot work round with a bikini on. I can understand the restaurants want that but .......

Mrs Heather Harwood

(05/09/2011)

Hi, I have never known of anyone treated disrespectfully, however, I wouldn't go in a restaurant in a bikini outside of the hotel. I think it is mainly people who misinterpret the intentions of the extremely friendly Tunisiens, as they have a very different attitude to us and are very demonstrative, but a smile works wonders. regards, Julie

Food at the Hotel Tej Marhaba (28/08/2011)

Last year when I was there it was about £2.50 (5 Tnd) a pint for beer and a main meal was between £2.50 & £10 in hotels but can be found cheaper at outside restaurants and cafes. Hope you enjoy your stay!!

Rooms at the Hotel Taj Marhaba (18/06/2010)

Hi, They have some 3 bed rooms which they may be able to add an extra bed to, but they may give you an apartment or two twin rooms. If you go on the direct holidays website and get a quote you can see how they will allocate before you book. Regards, Julie
